Aaahh--Spoke Too Soon!!!!! (Help!)

Our first clutch seems to be taking a turn for the worst....I checked on them today and they are all dimpled and sunken in. Would this be caused by too low a humidity level? We are using a homemade styrofoam incubator--could that be the cause? Is the clutch lost? We had braced ourselves for a possible poor outcome considering that this is a first clutch with a virgin breeder, but we would hate to lose the whole clutch if there was anything that we could do about it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using vermiculite you may have it too dry for the eggs. Try moisting the substrate by pouring water in the sides of the container, not too much because your eggs will get too moist.

From my experience if you have too many open holes in the container then the substrate drys out too fast. Too much moisture and the container will start to fog up....I had issues to! Try a container with no holes or one or two small ones and open the container every day to get new/fresh air to the eggs.

The eggs might not be fertile, and that why they're collapsing but hopefully they are jus too dry...try the water and they will plump back up.

Hi
yep like jos saying to dry.
take some partikels of vermucilite and push between fingers if there come out any drop .
if its dry and not a drop come out ,then you need to mist it.
not over the eggs but besides.
if you drop on eggs take a tisseu and take drop of.
those signs sunken and dimpled can also ocure if its time they can hatch.
but for now its to dry.
