What is on my turtles neck and legs?

ramirofez Jul 20, 2006 07:04 PM

We have 2 young RES turtles, Satchel and Bucky. They have clear looking stuff attatched and flowing off of their neck and legs. I hope it is just their skin shedding but everything I've read about shedding is referring to the shell. They seem to be extremely healthy and happy with strong appetites. Their water temperature stays at about 80 degrees and they bask on a regular basis under proper lighting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that's their shed skin. I see it on my turtle all the time. don't worry about it.

You need to reduce your water temperature to about 72 degrees. It is skin shedding.

It seems that everything I read suggests water temp of closer to 80-85 degrees. I will definitely give your suggestion a try though...thanks

I am not sure where you are reading this but I can tell you that it is NOT accurate information. 72-75 degrees is more than ample temperature for a Red eared slider. A basking temperature of 85-90 degrees is fine but the water is best at the range I mentioned.

Good luck with your turtle. Most likely the condition is nothing to worry about.
