Sale of turtles and tortoises banned in PA

teepee Aug 02, 2003 08:40 PM

I had friends go to a reptile show today in PA. I called them while they were at the show and asked them to keep an eye out for some tortoises I was looking for. They said that there was not a single turtle or tortoise in the whole show (this show usually has hundreds). The dealers said that PA is enforcing a new ban on the sale of turtles and tortoises no matter the size. (I guess they are legal if each turtle/tortoise passes a salmonella test 5 consecutive times(at a cost of $50 each test for a total of $250), and has the sate paperwork to prove it). Does anyone have any information on this new rule?

hmmm.....

It's amazing that I've never heard of this ban even though I work for the PA state gov't during the summer. I wonder when they decided to start this ban, and announce it to the public. I wonder how I was able to buy a turtle in PA just last week too.

Wow I'm so amazed at this new ban. I should keep up with this stuff.
