Sexing GTF

taddy Aug 02, 2003 08:46 PM

Hey all, me again. I was wondering how to tell male American Green Treefrogs from the females? One of mine has a pear shaped body, maybe thats where the eggs are?? The other 2 are slender, and I dont know where to find the nuptial pads. Also, none of them are croaking, how or when will they croak? They are each 3 years old .

Another thing, if I do have at least one female in there, how do I breed them? They have the right humidity, around 70 Degrees F., and plants. Is there also an easy way of making a rain chamber? Can you just spray from the top of the terrarium? Thanx

The green tree frogs are easy to sex if you compare them to one another. The males have more folds and usually a yellowish coloring to their throats. The females are still white, although some green does spill into it and it also has folds. I don't think they have nuptial pads, or they're not noticable.

Anyway, I think that 70*F is too cold to breed them (that's more like fall temps), and it might be too late this year if they're wild caught. Good luck sexing, though

Okay thanks, judging by what you said, I think i have a male and a female, now, how do I go about breeding them? I have a thermometer, and I have it at 84 F., or 29 C, is it okay? Also, I need a step by step guide to breeding them

Post everywhere you can and look for as many care guides as you can about this. It may be too late in the year, but you can still give it a try. http://talkto.thefrog.org has a breeding section you can post at and will have a quick reply.

Go through the different pages here and see what info you can look up. And good luck!
