Tortoises in Tennesse

pumpkin001 Jul 21, 2006 03:31 PM

Does anyone live in TN and keep tortoises/turtles? Thinking of relocating - I have a copy of the regulations. The only way looks like having a wholesale license. They make it confusing (of course) showing a Class 1 for most but class 3 for harmless - do they fall under a 3 or 1? How easy do they make it to acquire the wholesale license? I only breed on a small scale now - all sold out of state - so that is not a problem. I can increase to keep them if needed - but would like to know what they consider "wholesale" - because I don't believe in raising by the thousands. How strict are they if you have a couple turtles in your pond or half a dozen running around in your yard? All responses appreciated. The frustrating part is that the law was last reviewed in 1977 - when young children were the victim of salmonella - the trade has changed so much since then.

I think you're gonna have to contact someone at the state agricultural extension department to find an answer to this one.

The turtle and tortoise breeder, Terry Kilgore, who calls himself "Turtletary" lives in TN. He would probably be a wealth of information. He often advertises in KS classifieds. Email me privately if you cannot find out how to contact him.
