Can anyone refer a good incubator to buy

Mary-kate Jul 21, 2006 04:36 PM

My Three toed box turtle layed her clutch of 4 eggs a week ago yesterday. We have a lot of racoons where we live and so I riged the area where she layed them so the racoons wouldn't dig them up but they were trying. So I have made my own incubator and I have dug them up but I would like to not have to worrie about the tempature fluctuating even a few degrees.
Can anyone recommend a good brand for an incubator that they have had success with.
Thanks Mary-Kate

I use a Hovabator (still air model) incubator. I purchased it online from a livestock/veterinary supply company: it's less expensive than buying from a reptile supply company. Email me directly for the URL if you want it.
Or if you are in an area where you have that kind of store, call around for one: they're designed for poultry eggs.

It really doesn't matter if the temperature fluctuates a few degrees. The temps don't stay constant in the ground.

I've had very good luck with a homemade incubator for five
years.

I use a styrofoam cooler and a submersible aquarium heater.

I use the tupperware/vermiculite/warm spot in the house method, hasn't failed me in 3 years, and doesn't cost anything to run for 2-3 months

The still air Hovabator is probably your best beginner and very dependable way to incubate.

You can pick one up from any farm and feed store for far less than online via a reptile supply due to shipping costs( dimentional weight). With less temp flucation your hatch rates will be higher and your can set it for your choice of female /male.... temp sexed babies. The higher temps will be female.

As far as costs.... after purchase it costs pennies a day to operate. I recentally bought one, I have four, for $33.00.

Good luck and have fun!
