swollen foot

rhiannon22 Jul 21, 2006 08:28 PM

I have a pair of tiger salamanders and one of them has a kind of big bump on it's foot that has started to go down in the middle leaving a ring. It isn't affecting the salamander's activity or appetite, but I was wondering if anybody might know what could have caused it.

A bump could be a number of things: Cyst, abcess, tumour, inflammation... An experienced amphibian veterinarian would be able to diagnose it and determine whether it needs to be treated. Although your salamander is not declining in condition yet, it's always better to treat early before it gets to that point (when more emergency care is needed).
