dumbkid Aug 02, 2003 09:40 PM

i need to know if my veiled is actually male. he has sortof a tarsal spur, but so do females (a not-so obvious one, that ive seen). how big should the tarsal spur be for a 6 month old male veil? the one on mine is kinda small. any other way to sex the males from the females at this age? what should i do?

thanks!

my veiled is about 6 months old. yours should have coloration something like this pic. the tarsal spur is maybe 1/4" or less long. on the backside of the foot, it sticks out from where the toes meet, only at the back. hope this helps.

At 6 months of age a Male should have the full adult coloration and a female will not be as colorful. Plus a male at that age will have a pretty large tarsal spur. Females do not have the tarsal spur but rather can have a tuft of skin where their foot pads meet together in the middle of the foot.

i think the jerks at the petshop really did sell me a female, just to get rid of her. the "tarsal spur" isnt much of one, its kinda like a tuft of skin like you explained. im gonna take her back then. but ive gotten so attatched. its a cryin shame.
