baby blotchie dilemma resolved!

lele Jul 22, 2006 12:10 PM

Alice's suggestion of spiders was most helpful. I have been collecting eggs sacs that have just hatched and putting them in his tank - gets him jumping! They are SOOOO tiny. I am sure some will escape and add to the spider population in the house but no problem there - I don't mind them.

I have to go away for a few days and could not figure out what to do, now I will bring some unhatched egg sacs with me! hope the hotel doesn't mind a few extra spiders in the room! :-O

Here are some pics - the dots are the baby barn spiders

He's adorable! Glad you got the food situation squared away. My Podarcis eggs have turned translucent-dark, so hatching can't be far away.

I just looked up Podarcis on web - are they related to the blotchies? Look similar. Little Jr. has huge back feet! lol!!

thanks!

No, Podarcis are lacertids, one of many lacertid species found in Europe and Central Asia. They are green anole-sized bright green lizards with leopard-like markings on their sides in browns and ivories. Some specimens have pretty turquoise "portholes" on their sides.

These guys are VERY aggressive to each other, I'd hate to see 2 males in the same tank. They fight over food and territory like crazy. I have a young male and 2 adult females in a 30 gallon tank, which is JUST large enough. If I drop a waxworm in there, it looks like that scene in "Jurassic Park" where they lower a live cow in there and pull up the bones. Thank goodness these guys are only a few inches long or we'd be in trouble. They have Komodo-sized attitudes.
