The male is about 2'... And the female is about 30". Female might be gravid. They are tamer than they should be though LOL, I haven't been bit once.

Very active - hard to keep ? I read very active could be hard to keep but not sure if rough or smooth was the difficult type .

any idea why one or the other might be hard to keep?

Yes one type eats welLl in captivity and does well ofcourse if you keep it right . They like planted terrariums with green plants and climbing branches they do need heat from above (Incandescent bulb ) as they get their heat that way.

The other type regardless of what you do wont eat at all or just slowly stops eating.

reptile magazine had a great issue on them as pets it came out few months ago . pet stores carry both types so thats why best to know which type will do well .

pet store I go to had them early sumer in a 20 gallon extra high with fake plants and fed them wax worms-crickets .

They were very active all ate . I went back to buy 2 weeks later all sold out (they kept them with tiny treefrogs and that was a mistake as they ate a few)but the snakes got along well themselves .
They now have the other type and not one has eaten you can tell they sadly should have never been taken from the wild .
