anyone go to Hamburg today?

dziedzic Aug 02, 2003 10:25 PM

What happened to the beloved Hamburg reptile show? Anyone who went must have been shocked to see how few vendors were there. The overall tone of the room was sad. It seems some new legislation has been passed requiring a liscensed vet to inspect each animal for sale. Understandably, many vendors pulled out as a result. First of all, how is it possible for a vet to inspect(or a vendor to afford) 100 or more animals? Secondly, are these new laws in place for public health or is there something deeper going on here? I am worried that the hobby may have suffered a stinging defeat here. Are efforts being made to reverse this legislation? I would like to know who is behind it. One last thing... I think I counted something like 10 turtles in the entire room. Is salmonella such a concern that the implication is that a gaboon viper is a safer pet than a red-eared slider? Comments or clarifications please.

I heard from someone that there was gonna be some sort of bust there..... Alot of vendors did not show up for that reason..... But that is just what I heard..... It could very well be false...... The Hamburg show this time of year does not usually get a very good turnout anyway..... The next one should be good..... I have found the oct show and the show before august to be the best shows.....

I went and was very happy!

here is a pic of a neonate pigmy I picked up $10!!!. Vendor told me he fed on pinkies and let me tell you: IT IS TRUE!!

I placed a pinky in there but the snake did not eat for several hours. Then I used my body heat to warm up the pinky for 1.5 minutes. Guess what: little neonat struck at the heated pinky. Moments later, he ate it! How cool. This neonate measures 6.5 inches and is a tiny baby. It was captive born. Can you believe my luck? A neonate that eats pinkies (warmed up so as to elicit feeding strike, of course). For only $10!

I also bought a $34 pigmy female, (at least I hope it is--vendor only visually sexed it). Also take a look at the sweet Neodosha she is in. I bought that sweet thing for $20!

.

I am very happy with the show.
