What happened to the beloved Hamburg reptile show? Anyone who went must have been shocked to see how few vendors were there. The overall tone of the room was sad. It seems some new legislation has been passed requiring a liscensed vet to inspect each animal for sale. Understandably, many vendors pulled out as a result. First of all, how is it possible for a vet to inspect(or a vendor to afford) 100 or more animals? Secondly, are these new laws in place for public health or is there something deeper going on here? I am worried that the hobby may have suffered a stinging defeat here. Are efforts being made to reverse this legislation? I would like to know who is behind it. One last thing... I think I counted something like 10 turtles in the entire room. Is salmonella such a concern that the implication is that a gaboon viper is a safer pet than a red-eared slider? Comments or clarifications please.
