Frosty is a good name for a snow. You sure he is 18 months and not 18 weeks? Here is Hope as a hatchling and a pic from a few months ago (13 months old?)

in the first picture he is only a few weeks old and in the rest even though you can't see him lol he's 18 months old. I've had him that long now, he just wouldn't come out of that box, he's currently about 3 and 1/2 feet long.

izora Jul 23, 2006 01:26 PM

why does he keep getting longer and not any bigger around??? he eats very well, once a week I follow what the vet told me to do he's got a really good set up, heating pad, the light, three mice a week, i think the fuzzies the store sells me are actually hoppers but he eats them without any problem, he's not hungry after he eats his three a week, but it still irks me that he's only getting longer. He is about as big around as a double a battery maybe a bit thicker in some spots, if i could get him outta that box i could show you, but he wont come outta that box and rest assured when he does, im fixing that problem lol he's losing the bottom of the box so i can lift it up off him easily. anyway, i'll post pics as soon as he gets out just curious when hes gonna start looking like the other snakes i see that are his age.

If he is 3 1/2 ft long he needs to be on adult mice....Cornsnakes are not like pythons they don't get huge they are long (4-5ft) and slender so they won't bulk up like pythons....

Normally I'd agree with that 100%. But 2 months ago I got a female sunglow? in the shop. She was freaking OBESE.

Girth in front of the cloaca was the size of a quarter, just after it, the size of a dime. Shes on a diet, but needs a treadmill aquarium too! lol

But I like to feed my stuff larger if they are good feeders. That cream I had the belly infection was born in Feb I guess? She was on small mice in 3 months. Was off feed for a month healing, but is back up to taking avg size mice.

HHmmm I need to tape my camera togeth that my dog broke and take some new pics.

I know he's not a python, I've had corn snakes before but my vet specifically told me that he's only allowed to have a meal that is the same size as his widest point. So we've been progressing slowly. he's extremely healthy he always sheds in one complete piece, never has a problem eating and I never have a problem with attitude, so far, but he's just slow to grow bigger around. worries me but hopefully i can say he's just a slow leaper or something....

phiber_optikx Jul 24, 2006 03:00 AM

He can actually handle more. 1-1 1/2 his size is a good rule of thumb though. Most corn snakes grow long and then out (from my experience) Hope is roughly 3' and about as thick as my thumb. My 05 black rats are about 2 1/2' long and MAYBE as thick as my pinky. It all depends on the individual snake. I will add though that yours does seem on the thin side. Try bumping him up a notch on the food scale and see how he does. It will probably give him a growth spurt. I recently moved Chunk from mice hoppers to rat fuzzies in hopes that he will put on some size before breeding season.
