Outdoor enclosure

drzrider Jul 23, 2006 09:43 AM

I have a 4 foot free roaming female that I want to build an outdoor enclosure for. I want it to be something I can put her in on nice sunny days. Most people seem to use hardware cloth for their outdoor enclosures. Why not use chicken wire? Has anyone tried chicken wire for outdoor enclosures? If so was it strong enough?

Chicken wire can rust if it's not coated or made of rust-resistant metals (aluminum, stainless, etc).
Also, claws and/or digits can get stuck and literally torn off, but that depends on the size of the 'holes'.
Chicken wire also has holes bigh enough for small creatures, such as rodents to pass right thru, as well as snakes and some small birds, not to mention unwanted insects, such as wasps or hornets, spiders, etc.

... and there's people someone who like it:

...but ultimately, don't go for the chicken wire.

Thanks. I will use something other than chicken wire.

Why have an outdoor enclosure at all? We take our Iggi outside every day, for sunshine, exercise and fresh air. We always supervise her, and let her stay out about an hour or so. This gives her plenty of UVB right from the sun.
