Locality , genetics or both?

17year Jul 23, 2006 10:17 AM

A Yellowhead Collared is C.collaris, but so is an Aquaflame. Is the locality the determining factor or is it just the genetics of that particular line. If locality is the issue, what region contains each?

Yellowheads used to be C. auriceps but since have been included in with the C. collaris group.

Locale is the main thing with these guys as the name aquaflame was given to them by Dr. Thomas Jones for their specific colors and vibrant yellow/orange dewlaps. Locale being Oklahoma.

Yellowheads (the colors speaks for itself,) yellow and a beautiful blue, with a blue dewlap. Utah is known for their gorgeous yellowheads.

Mine are C. collaris, but there not aquaflames and I don't think there yellowheads. What are they? are they yellow heads? I think I used to know the answer to this.

So, they yellowheads will have a more white or blue dewlap and the aquaflames will have a more orange/yellow dewlap? And from what I have seen the aquaflames body yellow/orange seems to be more generalized, that is, it's almost on top of the blue and in the background rather than speckled like the yellowheads?

In case you can't tell I am trying to nail down the locality/variety that I have, I know have C. bicintores(maybe grismeri?) that one was easier, but the easterns I have are tricky to exactly i.d..

Thanks for the info, I am sure I will have more questions.
