Well, it was another 1400+ mile trip for me. Some of you may remember my last post, and the fact that I moved over a dozen live box turtles off of the highways. This time, I found far fewer.
North Carolina - 2 dead box turtles
Virginia - 2 live female box turtles, 1 dead male
Pennsylvania - 0 turtles
NJ - 0 box turtles
FYI, not under the box turtle forum heading - I saw over 25 dead Diamondback terrapins and several dead snapping turtles driving roads that transverse NJ salt flats. I also placed 2 fresh hatchlings in the nearby water after seeing them frantically clambering across the road (I have VERY good "turtle eyes" )
Steph, I rescued a Bog turtle from a highway in your state. I simply placed it on the side of the road. I felt like I should do something, but I couldn't spend time trying to contact anyone. I recorded some information. If you know of any interested official, contact me. I really wish that I could return to the road to make sure that it didn't return and get squashed.
