Tomorrow I leave to go to Australia. I'm staying in Portland on Monday night. Tuesday morning I'm flying to LA. In La i'm going to spend the day at the Le Brea tar pits. Then at nine that night I leave for Australia. I'll be there for a month.

Cool,
Where in Australia are you going? I have been there a couple of times my in-laws live near Brisbane .

Very cool!!! That's one place I would desperately love to go! Will you get a chance to go herping while you're there? Wild beardies! Hehe!

It's funny, the last time I was there ,January of this year, I went to Australia Zoo(Steve Irwin wasn't there at the time)18 bucks per person just to get in!!! and I was more impressed with what wasn't part of the zoo than anything. There were wild Beardies and Water dragons all over the place just roaming free. I did go out into the "bush" a couple of times but it was mid summer and the heat was insane.

I checked the weather and it's supposed to be in the 50-60f range. I'm hoping it will get warmer in later August, 50-60 isn't the best herping weather.

I think I would rather herp when it's cooler like that, all you need is some sun and they will be out in it and a little less alert to your presence.

DeanBright Jul 23, 2006 01:28 PM

I guess that is true, they won't run as fast. And I can always look under things.

I'm going to the South East corner, near Melbourne. I plan to do a lot of herping while I'm there, and plan to bring back a bunch of pictures.

The plane ride isn't fun. Are you flying coach? Qantas?

DeanBright Jul 23, 2006 01:27 PM

Yeah I'm flying coach. I'm dreading the long flight. On the way there I leave at nine at night and get there in the morning, mabe I'll get a little sleep on the plane. On the way back I get to LA an hour before I left Australia on the same day, so that will be a really long day. going both directions I stop in New Zealand, hopefully I can see the land when we're leaving and taking off.

I did the Auckland stop over the first time I went, but I couldn't really see much.

If your flight is not full I would suggest claiming some empty seats as soon as they close the plane doors, everyone will be clammering to get a couple empty seats by them to lay down in, it makes a big difference.

DeanBright Jul 23, 2006 01:47 PM

That's where I stop is in Auckland.
