I just got a captive breed male Russian tortoise yesterday at a reptile show. It is about 4.5 inches. I forgot to ask the breeder how old it was so now I wonder about its age. What do you all suppose its age is?

Depends on the genetics of the specimen and the type of care provided by the breeder. I have a specimen I hatched that reached 4.5 inches by the age of 3 and is over 5 inches at the age of 4. I once had an old, male WC specimen that was 4.5 inches, and it appeared to be well into its adult years.
