They need a cage with dimensions of 36 inches long/18 inches wide/18 inches high minimum or better just start your uro off in a 4 feet long/2 feet wide/2 feet high cage.If you start with the minimum size cage you'll have to move it to the bigger cage soon anyway so start out with the bigger cage.

If you can go bigger then the 4 feet long/2 feet wide size go ahead and build it bigger!

so what minimal size tank do i need for one mali uro?

cajit Jul 24, 2006 07:52 PM

Minimum size cage for a small to medium size uro is 36 inches long/18 inches wide/18 inches high which is a 40 gal.breeder but you will need to move the uro once it's an adult to a cage of 4 feet long/2 feet wide/2 feet high, that's why it's best to just start them out in the bigger cage. These aren't cheap lizards to keep by any means!

thanks,ur teling me reptiles are very expensive lol but when i buy a animal of any kind i pay or do what ever that anilmal needs because when u buy i animal i feel that u must do every thing for that animal or its wrong and u shouldnt buy it or have it .

cajit Jul 24, 2006 08:32 PM

Well that's good as too many people out there don't do what they should do for an animal when they buy one.

I'd rather let someone know up front that it's going to be costly to care for a uro then not say anything.

I also tell them to research, research and research some more!
I would recommend buying a uro from a reputable breeder! I'll give you a link for another reputable breeder.I also gave you a link for another reputable breeder in previous post for care sheet.

Yup! They're beautiful! Did you ever find a whale vertebra?

cajit Jul 25, 2006 11:26 PM

No I haven't had time to go digging around for one yet, probably wait til it's a bit cooler.

I did email L though and it won't be a problem getting an ornate(hopefully the both of us can pick a male) from him I'll call him a few months or so before I want to buy it and we'll work something out about going and picking it up.I also got info on the Suncoast Herp Society here in Clearwater from L, which I'll be joining sometime in the near future.

When are you going to take some pics of the new ornates,I would love to see them!

You're gonna go try DIGGING for a whale vertebra?? Hmmmmm... Let me suggest the only proven & tried ways of finding them. You can buy them. Expensive! You can strap on a tank & work the rivers. Good luck, anymore!! Or, sneak into Bone Valley & search the mine pits. Best chance!! If you choose the latter, it's lots of fun but, be super careful. Those pits can swallow you, literally, especially during the wet season. Having said that, if I still lived down your way, I'd be in the pits every weekend.

I've never heard of bone valley where is that?Yeah the digging wouldn't be a good way of finding one after I think of it.I may just buy one if I can find it reasonably priced and nice enough for what I want.I'm in no rush to have it so I'll take my time.I have actually dug one up almost 20 years ago when I was landscaping but don't remember what happened to it.

Bone Valley is, as I recall, in Pasco Co. It's a huge strip mining area near Zolpho Springs & that area, not all that far from the Peace River. Super spot for megalodon teeth & most all the Pleistocene mammal stuff.

cajit Jul 27, 2006 11:47 PM

Sounds good.I love to go and explore and look for stuff. It sounds like it would be a great time.I think I'll wait til the summer rains are gone to avoid any injuries or other disasters.Better safe then sorry plus I already have enough injuries and I don't need any new ones!
