Help identifying ?viper?

jarrodrandel Jul 24, 2006 09:28 AM

I am pretty sure this is some bothriechis color morph, but I could be totally wrong.

If it is, I have never seen it before.

I dont know how to put pictures in the post/message thing, so I just linked to the website where it is located.

It is the Green Snake on the top with the red stripe on its side.

It says it right there. It's a " Chinesische Bambusotter".

They just spelled the species name wrong:
Chinese Green Tree Viper (Trimeresurus stejnegeri)

It says the top picture is a male and the bottom is a female.

Hhaha. Yeah my german is a little weak, sorry.

Have these been bred in the US with any success in the past 10-20 yrs?

Strange that these "old-world" snakes are so vibrant and detailed. That seems to be quite unusual - for most old world species to retain such distinct characteristics - vice the mandarin rat.

I could be wrong.

Indeed these are Trimeresurus gumprechti. A species closely related to Trimeresurus stejnegeri and described recently. You can see and read more about them on my homepage, URL below

Cheers
