Question Regarding Paradox.......

vcaruso15 Jul 24, 2006 09:38 AM

Has anyone ever had or seen a male paradox boa? If so has anyone ever proven one of these as a breeder? I am asking because I have been researching the genetics behind paradox animals in an attempt to prove out my Paradox Sunglows. Thanks for any help you may be able to offer. Vinnie

I've never actually seen a male Paradox Albino. I do know of 2 Paradox Albinos born this year. They were both females.

I did hear of a male Paradox Albino a couple of years ago. It was a father of a litter that was being sold on kingsnake.com classifieds. It wasn't an "obvious" Paradox. It only had 1 black scale. I've never seen a male Paradox in person and I've never heard of any others that were males. I'm not 100% sure that the boa they showed was a male either. I'm just going by what the ad said.

So what's your theory on the Paradox thing? Did any of yours turn out to be males??

The main reason I ask is that I have been researching what genetics may be behind this phenomenon and was thinking it may be the same type of gene that produces calico cats. If this were the case males would be extremely rare and if there were a male it would most likely be sterile. All 4 of the Paradox Sunglows from my litter this year are female, however the high slug could could also contribute to that. I have been engulfing myself in genetics lately and cannot get enough of it. There are so many possibilities for this trait including partial parthenogenesis. I have a long 3 year wait to speculate before breeding trials can begin so I guess time will tell. Thanks Vinnie

I have had both male and female Paradox amazon tree boas...and even though they are tree boas they are still boas. When Paradox animals are bred together you get nothing but when the same normal parents that produce paradox animals are bred together they will usually produce paradox animals every couple of litters.

I don't believe there has been a successful breeding of paradox pythons or boas to produce more paradox animals.

I dont think it has been done yet either. Hopefully I can be the first. I would not be suprized that you have not been able to reproduce the paradox in ATB's. The genetics on them seem to be so diluted and complex at this point. I think only about 2 or 3 genetic traits have been proven with them. Thanks for your input and good luck. Vinnie

I have been told by some this is a paradox, it is a male.

Pete had one for sale in Daytona last year. I know he had a Paradox Albino for sale, and I think it was a male. Ask him though, I know he has had some Paradox animals.

My friend Erik Makeneni produced a Paradox Snow this year. I haven't seen it yet, but can't wait. It was produced from a Female Snow x Anery Het Snow Male.

He has a picture of it in with the rest of the babies in his add under Classified/Boas. I think there is a posting today.
