Renegade Iguana--Help!!!!!!

renland Jul 24, 2006 11:40 AM

So.....there is officially a loose iguana in my neighborhood. I spotted him last Sunday and was unsuccessful in capturing him (he's sooooo fast!) and today he appeared again, and my Mom wasn't able to grab him. Is there any hope of catching this little guy? He's pretty small, about 10in I'd say. My Mom said that he is half in shed right now, and was looking pretty thin. I feel so bad....I just can't seem to get him, and our neighborhood is full of outdoor cats and has a busy street. I own snakes and beardies, so caring for an iggy would be no problem, it's just catching him thats the issue! Is there any trick to catching an escaped iguana? Would any fruit/food entice him into a cage? Thanks for any and all help--please help me save this little iggy!

Don't know if anyone on here watches it but Stargate SG-1 had an episode last friday where they had to catch an iguana like creature. As as you have found out it is difficult. Other than a humaine trap and some veggies, I can't think of any way that you could make it easier. When ours gets loose inside the house he normally goes back to his basking spot when he is done playing. But outside... not much else I can think of. Good luck!

You may not catch him till the weather gets colder. It would be easier in the morning or at night. The sun tends to make them pretty feisty. We hear about loose iguanas in the fall more than any other season.

Where is this?

I'm in Massachusetts, outside of Boston. We've had some extremely hot and humid days recently, yet also some torrential rains. As fall approaches, we get some very cool weather. I don't know how long this little guy will make it here in the New England climate outdoors. I'm still looking for him, not giving up hope yet. He's a brave little guy--wasn't taken aback by my two dogs barking at him only two feet away. Lol...he'd fit in well here.
