ornate euro in trouble????

euro_wolfy Aug 02, 2003 11:51 PM

I just recently purchased one ornate euro. He/she is doing good eating/defecating/basking. I thought that it would be nice to add a couple more to the one. So i ordered from the same place that i got the first one from. They were a bit smaller but not buy much.first one was about 6" the 2 new ones are 4-5". This is my concern.... one of the two new ones i have not witnessed eating. Appears to be bloated and not eating i have tried soaking thinking maybe it was on the wrong bedding material and had a blockage. I know they don’t need to be soaked, just thought it might help. I’m feeding yellow and green squash, a mixed fields green salad, green beans, sweet peas, peas, corn, red and green lentils, and once a week 6 crickets for the 3 of them (2 per euro). All but the crickets are put in a food processor for a few seconds. I’m trying to get a hold of the vet that takes care of the local zoo as to see what he might be able to tell me. Does anybody have any suggestions please? I don’t want to loose these beautiful animals

have they been treated for parasites? If you think they are not eating i would seperate the one you think is not doing good, make sure he/she is eating and then possibly re introduce him/her in a few days. Also is the trio a male , 2 females, i am sure it is hard to tell right now since they are small, but it might be a stressed out thing since the one is smaller. Also if you just got them they might not eat for a few days due to the trip and new enviroment.
Good luck ornates are beautiful!

Maybe I missed it, but when you put the other two in the tank, did you move the stuff around so that it appears to ALL the uros that it's a new fresh enviroment? If not, and the original one was there for a while, a territorial issue maybe arising. The bloatedness maybe a continual defensive move because it's afraid of the original uro, and the lack of eating from "passive" aggressiveness from the other. Try taking them all out, totally cleaning and rearranging the tank, and reinroducing them again. If health is too questionable, remove the new uros to their own living enviroments, and get them acclimated before re trying.

Good luck
