Runaway Rat Snake

blackfoot1c Jul 24, 2006 04:32 PM

Hey Guys, Hello Ladies,....yes he managed to get out, I forgot to put the corner clamp on, thus of course, he escaped into the basement! Any pointers on how to catch him and return him to the enclosure? I am continuing to look around, seems that he has the advantage now, I put his water bowl out,....where do I go from here? Oh, this is a Black Ratsnake about 4ft. long, very stealth!

Look up ? every one I've had to hunt down always went for the high ground such as book shelves and the ceiling panels.

hehe...my 6 foot black rat has gotten out before... and one of my corns eats live mice....and when i'm finished with the boxes, i just throw them on the floor and throw trash in them....well...when willard got out...i heard rustling before i even noticed he was missing(it was during breeding season so i guess he was trying to find love) but i looked in the box and there he was....sleeping like a lil baby. i dunno if it would work like that for othr people....but i've found 2 of 3 loose snakes in boxes....the 1 time...there were no boxes and i cleaned my reptile room so it was in the corner. whoever said it doesnt pay to be messy...didnt own snakes.

U have me lol,.....thanks for the good advice! While I'm looking for "DEBOE", my snake's name, do I have to fear being bitten? I have to move around alot of stuff, may startle the little bugger......

althea Jul 27, 2006 03:24 AM

If I were you, I'd be more concerned about being bitten by other lurking creatures (ex. brown recluse spider)! If you scare your ratsnake, you may hear some tail rattling. I once had a corn who was a notorious escape artist. Invariably, if I moved objects in the room slightly, he would tail rattle, thus giving me a chance to hone in on his location. Best of luck!

althea

Hi "althea", and thanks for the info. I feel more confident now as I still search for "DEBO". Yes, it's alot of spiders down here in the basement, no signs of him yet, still looking......
