Must be baby season! =D

I caught an eastern garter 'bout a month ago. Thought it was a boy till a few days ago... look in the cage and found a mass of slithering worm-like critters. 23 babies and 3 still borns. But one of babies didn't make it very long... was all twitchy when I found it, and died the next day.

Today I released about half of them back to the swamp in my backyard. The rest I fed some cut up earthworms. I felt sort of bad for releasing them, because I doubt a lot of them will make it.

And I have a question: how old do the babies have to be before you can pop them? They look way too small and fragile right now to be popped.

By the way, that's just the tub I had to keep them in while I cleaned out mom's tank and prepared a new one for the babies. And of course my dog had to be there to stick his nose in. ^_^

Here's a close-up of one of the babies.
