need albino information

tribbielvr Aug 03, 2003 12:34 AM

We just had a gecko hatch that is light pinkish orange with faint yellow bands
but has orange/red eyes. What type of albino would that be? I knew
some of our geckos were het for albino but I was not expecting
them to have red eyes.

I am going to try to see if I can get a picture on here.
Thanks
Nina

its impossible to say what type of albino it is. all the albinos have varying degrees of red, seems like bells have the most though, and albino hatchlings usually have brighter eyes then older animals.

All my albino babies hatch with red eyes (I work w/ Trempers, father has red eyes as adult). The degree of red they keep as they get older varies, but it is always brightest and most glowing when they are born it seems, like drops of illuminated blood.

Is there a way to know if they are tremper or rainwater or even Bell based
on color?

Thanks
Nina

You can make educated guesses based on color, but the only way to know for sure is to know parentage or breed-test.

When albinos (at least Tremper) hatch with bright red eyes. With age they usually lighten up a bit to a pink, sometimes the red stays but it's pretty uncommon.

Unless the parents are Tangerine Albinos, then I wouldn't bet on the orange staying as it matures. I hatched 2 albinos with bright orange heads, but within a few months it was completely gone. I would say it is a yellow banded albino. If the parents were Tangerine Albinos, then I would wait until at least a couple of months to see what the bands are starting to turn out to be, then classify it as it is.
