Worth it to feed WC insects?

Sebea Jul 25, 2006 04:45 PM

I will be recieving a blue bar ambilobe in a couple weeks, and a few questions have arisen regarding feeding. I would like to feed as varied of a diet as possible, including WC moths, beatles, and other insects. I live in a community in Florida which more than likely uses pesticides, so feeding my chameleon the WC bugs is obviously a concern of mine. Also, living in Florida means that there are many orange groves nearby, and I wouldn't doubt that farmers use pesticides on their crops. This just increases the risk of feeding my cham insects infected with pesticides, as they can come from the orange groves. So, my question to you is...Even with its added benefits, is feeding WC insects to my cham worth it, or is it too risky, given all the pesticides used in my area? Thanks!

There may be times of year they are not spraying when you could gather some very local insects from your yard. How far are you from an orchard? Do they use aircraft to dust or is it done from the ground in the orchard itself? There are more insect foods available for you to culture yourself, or you could gather a few and set up breeding colonies to feed from.
