About two weeks ago my female deppei jani escaped, my fault, I didn't lock the lid properly and pits are strong snakes.....

after tearing my place apart and leaving open boxes on the floor etc, I had pretty much resigned myself to her being gone, she's only about 20 inches or so long so could have gotten in anywhere.

Last night I went to check on some ratsnake eggs that are nearly due and guess who's sitting behind the incubator only about 2 foot from where her cage is anyway!

After a quick check over she's in good health although a bit skinny, god knows where she's been but am I glad to have her back.

Sounds like your jani found a temp zone that was perfect, and you simply had to make the rounds. I've got a good escaped snake story for you. Many years ago, a schoolmate of mine had his black rat and Everglades rat escape their cage that he had in the utility room of his family's home. Months later, his dad gave him a chore of cleaning up the shelves of this room of old paint cans and such. While we were moving cans and drop cloths, the black rat falls out of an old tarp. We are simply whooping it up with amazement,as we figured this guy was long gone. A few minutes later, we find the Everglades rat coiled on top of some paint cans back on a corner shelf. If you had drawn a line from where these snakes were found, and where the cage was, you could have covered it with a yardstick. Both snakes were in perfect condition. You have to wonder that they simply were sticking close to surroundings that smelled familiar.

Must be something about Janis, my 4 footer was missing 3 weeks in the house. Finally spotted her behind a wallunit.

I only had to move 20 trophies and 500 books to get her out.

I only had to pull a small incubator back thankfully, it was a horrible feeling as I picked this pair up only recently and tbh the female was the much better one of the two.
