New Outdoor Pics

sd2fast4u Jul 26, 2006 10:02 AM

I have not been on for a while so I thought I would post some pics of my Sulcatas Outdoor pen. The top picture is the Box turtle area, and the bottom is the whole pen area. If you look close at the bottom pic you can see 4 of the Sulcatas eating collards. There is a Hibiscus tree that give them 3 to 4 flowers a day that they just cant wait till morning to eat. there is also a large tortoise house in the right hand corner that is just out of the picture, but it gives them shelter from the rain and cold. there is also a green tote box that they hide in and a covered corner in the pen that they use on very sunny days. The pen seems to work well, they enjoy all areas of it and dont dig or try to climb out. The pen has two other section divided off, one is for my 7 Eastern Boxs (Pic at top) you can see a few of them coming out to see what is going on. The other is home to two young Sulcatas. They all seem very happy and healthy. As you can see, the grass did not stand a chance against the Sulcatas, they eat all the new growth as soon as it pops up. I live in Charleston SC so I will have to move them into the garage this winter, and cover up a larger portion of the box turtle pen.

Thanks to you all for the great advice I've been given on this website over the last few years, and Thanks to PHRats for always being here, and on the box turtle forum.

Great photos! Thanks for posting them.
Oh my GOSH!!! I can't get over how the sulcatas ate up ALL the grass LOL!
This is why when my box turtle pen is built I plan to plant a flower garden inside it where the sulcata cannot get to the fresh new plants. That way they will have a chance go thrive then when they produce edible tortoise flowers I can pick them for her then still have the whole plant left over.
I used to have a pretty flower garden in front of the house, where most people would plant a flower garden. I have nothing now because the flowers that were poison to a tortoise had to be dug up & gotten rid of then she ate the rest of them so I have nothing at all now lol.

My wife is having me build a moveable Torotise box that I can move from place to place so that the Torts can eat the grass in other parts of the yard and maybe give the grass in the pen a chance to grow a little again. / Still no news on the Box turtle eggs, they still look the same. / My son should be born in the next 7 weeks, so If I dissapear again, thats where I am, trying to figure out how to be a great dad! But fear not, I will not stay gone from kingsnake for long! I sell Mazuri on EBay and I bet I send 5 people to this site a week! I love kingsnake.com
