substrate question...

asia2003 Aug 03, 2003 07:01 AM

Hi All,

As you know, the date for buying my tegu is fast aproaching and I want to get his home setup as soon as possible. I know they need substrate, in order to dig etc, but what do most people use?? I have heard that people use cypress mulch, can you get it in a local hardware store, or does it have to be a special kind?

Thanks,

Leyla x

I use cypress mulch, and I think most other people do as well. It's the same cypress mulch you would find at Home Depot, Lowes, or gardening centers

Hi Leyla (long time no see)!

Cypress is good...peat moss is good too. Anything you can keep moist...like potting soil.
There are people that will argue the case of the dimishing cypress trees...so if your one of them, there are other alternatives.
If you still would like to use cypress, it's hard to find in certain areas, so you'll have to call around. Home depot refuses to sell it anymore.

Good Luck

PS: Have you seen Phil's albino? It's gorgeous!

Where is it you live that Home Depot refuses to sell it? That's very odd indeed. We have an overwhelming supply of it here in West Virginia. Just about every other gas station has it for sell as well.
