Increasing prey size

cammyleon Jul 26, 2006 06:41 PM

I'm fairly new to ball pythons and was wondering what size rats the larger female ball pythons eat. I have a 1200g female eating large rats. Does that sound right? When would I move her up to an XL? What size rats do the 3000 gram BP's eat? Thanks!

i dont even feed my 2300g females large rats. My opinion is thats to big. its way better to feed smaller items. If you feed small rats every 7 or so days your BP will by no means starve. Larger meals take longer to digest as well. IMO i would go to med or the bigger end of small rats (that make sense?).

the very largest rats I feed are really big medium, almost larges. I do this because it's just a safety thing for me, I feed live and I don't want any of my big girls getting hurt. For those females that need more, they just get a couple per feeding if they will take it or I feed them every 5 days. I guess if you are feeding frozen or prekilled, a 3000g female could probably take a very large rat or maybe even a jumbo with no problem.
