ghost corn not eating

janome Jul 27, 2006 06:06 AM

he is an '03 male so 3 years old. definately in breeding age/size. he ate on feb.22nd. has shed 2 times since then but wouldn't eat. he ate on july 1st finally but only a hopper. he is very capable of eating jumbo mice (f/t) which is what he was eatin. i offered him a jumbo on july 15. he started to eat it then spit it out. he got to the shoulders. i can tell as the mouse was wet up to that point.

ok so now he just shed again yesterday and i offered him another f/t jumbo mouse. still will not touch it. i will try a smaller mouse but still why wont' he eat. hes been a great eater since i've had him.

are corns still in breeding mode this time of year? he not restless like he was back in the spring. i just dont' know. hes not loosing weight so i'm not terrible worried but i dont know why he won't eat now. he is in a 40 gallon breeder size tank. has been for months now.

Some males simply are more persistant than others in searching for a mate. It is likely what makes some of them have a higher probability to pass on their DNA to the next generation, so that's a good thing, I guess.

Do you have a female? He may be picking up her pheromones, if she's close by, and moving her a little further away from his enclosure may help him get his mind back on eating again.

Good luck with him!
