Im no expert or anything but before i switched to cypress mulch thats what i used an it worked jus fine. .. . jus make sure you have two pieaces so you can switch them so when one is drying out from where you have cleaned it the other one can be ready to go in.

We used to use the felt carpet substrate for our large ball python (before he was 'large') and it worked OK. The problem I found with it, is that it doesn't hold in moisture well, which may later on cause a problem for your ball python. They need humidity and the moisture will help them along with shedding as balls usually don't have the easiest of sheds.

...Sure if you have 1 or 2 BP's and you don't mind the trouble of washing, sanitizing, and drying, it's OK. Just do a GOOD job otherwise you'll be bringing them to me someday! Scott J. Michaels DVM

I use repti-carpet in my burms and ball cages. Ive found the way to keep them from getting nasty is to machine wash them but when the washer is filling with water, I add some stain remover to the water along with detergent. It works like a charm!

I have been using astroturf for years. I keep some newspaper under it to help absorb any moisture. When it is dirtied I take it all out, clean the cage and replace it with clean newspaper and a clean carpet. No odor or any swank.

I clean it by taking it outside and hosing it thoroughly with the garden hose. Then I put it in a solution of antibacterial soap and water and leave it at least 24 hours. Rinse and dry completely and it is ready to reuse.

Works fine for me....Maybe just a little extra work.
