karcus Jul 27, 2006 03:23 PM

I am looking for a sub species of the boa that does not grow out past 6 feet. What are my options.
Thanks

Rio Bravo / Marcia Lincoln line Sonoran Boa. They are a hearty subspecies with good personalities!

have very funny hissy personalities. However, they are extremely tame and great to work with. Here is a male I used to have:

He was nearly full grown, you can see the palm of my hand in this picture to get an idea of size:

I really need to get some animals from this line again. The only Sonorans I have now are my Leopard and my 66% het.

but the locality within a subspecies.

Considering pure blooded animals, the following would be candidates:
B.c.imperator of the following locales:
Cay Caulker
Crawl Cay
Tarahumara Mt.
Sonoran
Nicaraguan
Hog Island
Corn Island
Panamanians and Costa Ricans may grow past 6ft.

B.c.sabogae but be careful here, there are very few pure specimens available.

Most Colombian males will not grow past 5ft. unless they have a tendency to grow large from the bloodline, or are fed heavily.

The smallest would be Tarahumara Mt., Sonoran, Cay Caulker, and Crawl Cay. Take a look at RioBravoReptiles.com for more information. Gus is a great guy!

Also, keep in mind most of these are more expensive than common boas, if that is an issue.

Well, what do ya know, I live in Brownsville, where Rio Bravo reptiles is located. Those hog island boas seem perfect, Im going to have to pay him a visit.

Gus's policy on visitors, but I would DEFINATELY give him a call.

Is there a reason you want a smaller boa?

If I had to pick a smaller boa it would be a male Hogg. I just like their look.

Of course, I have a regular Colombian male that's very small. He's almost 12 years old. He's only 4 feet long. Yeah, that's really small for a Colombain, but that's as big as he's gotten. I got him when he was 8 years old. I just figured that he wasn't fed very much and he might still grow. In the past 4 years he's only grown 3 inches, but he's bulked up a bit. He's a picky eater, but still averages 2 meals a month. The longest he's gone without eating was 6 weeks, but he was also in shed.

Anyway I just wanted to let you know that Colombians can sometimes stay small too.

Dumerl's Boas are also a beautiful island boa. The males usually stay smaller than the females. Males usually grow to about 5-6', some are smaller and some are bigger, just like any other species.

My male is already 4' at a year old, he has a nice bulk to him but isn't fat.
