Need an I.D please.....

sandhillsexotics Jul 27, 2006 04:00 PM

I found a couple frogs (well, there were several but I could only capture two of them) when I was clipping some Lilies to make a bouquet with.

These little guys were nestled among the leaves of my Lilies, and were jumping from branch to branch just like little monkeys.

I dont know where these frogs came from, since we've lived at our residence over a year, and the Lilies were here when we bought the place.

Thanks!
Annie

where are you located and how big are the frogs?

sandhillsexotics Jul 28, 2006 08:16 AM

I'm located just outside Lincoln, Nebraska....

The frogs are between the size of a dime and a nickel.

I've never seen little tree frogs like this in Nebraska, so I was thinking that either someone (one of my neighbors) let them go, or else they came in with some vegetable "starts" that I bought from Home Depot.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Annie

sorry for the delay in responding, but i have been trying to identify the species online, but with no success. i'm not sure if it is still young so i'm not finding pics or if it is just not a species i'm fimilar with. i doesn't look like any species that are native to nebraska, so it may be introduced, though if there were a couple of them then they may be native and just a too small to be showing their patterns. sorry i cannot be of more help, but good luck in indentifing it.

my guess would be copes gray treefrog.. they are native to nebraska and juveniles can be green like that... did you notice any yellow on the inside of its thigh? i found this on another site:

In general, the Cope's Gray Treefog tends to be smaller and have smoother skin than the Gray Treefrog, and it is often bright green when calling

this is a link to the pic.. looks like the ones in your picture i think..
