Hatchling Care Question(s)

MMathis Jul 27, 2006 06:36 PM

One baby (Turbo) emerged this morning and the 2nd (Charger) is working its way out as we speak! What do I need to use for substrate while waiting for the yolk sacs to absorb? (now they are on moist paper toweling in the incubator). Also, during this time, what special care/attention should I provide (access to water, food, shelter, humidity level, temp, etc.?) When do I start offering food, water, etc.?

Mom (Zippo) is a 3-toed, and Dad (Speedy) is an Eastern.

Thanks!

Sounds like you're doing fine so far. Just keep their environment humid. After the yolk is absorbed you can try offering a little food and start making water available to them, but it's not necessary the first week or so at least. As long as they're in a humid environment!

Thanks! I have a layer of moistened sphagnum moss under the paper toweling. So far they (#2 has hatched) are seeking shelter in small over-turned flower pots. When it's time to offer food, will they seek & eat or will I need to encourage them in any way?
