Dog days...

crimsonking Jul 27, 2006 07:38 PM

I wanted to post better pics but I'm too lazy today.
Anyway, it IS good to come home after experiencing one (or in my case-many) of the DOG DAYS of summer, (hot, humid and miserable) to find some little hatchlings poking their heads out and maybe checking out the world..Isn't it?
Got some more weird Cals this year...some stripey, some banded, some ???
more to come of these guys.

and a few other kings that have shed...

definitely more pic of these to come after they all shed out..

BTW these are captive bred variants of "pure" animals! haha!
Purely for fun!
Maybe we should adopt the "cultivar" lingo for kings just as they have for corns???

I dunno. If you saw the parents.... I mean, dad is a "mendota" looking snake and mom is a "banana"! Ha!
Some of those many banded looking things came out too. Someone should breed these back to each other and see what pops out.

Kerby... Jul 27, 2006 10:27 PM

I always thought that it meant it was so hot that the dogs wouldn't even leave the porch, but instead just laid there on the porch with their head on their paws.

Dog days of summer (which I always thought was in August). Nothing to do, so hot that the dogs are lazy.

How about the trivia question: Where did Three Dog Night get their name and how does it relate to hot summer nights in Austraila?

Kerby...

varanuslifer Jul 27, 2006 10:35 PM

The band changed their name based on an article describing how Australian Aborigines slept with their dogs for warmth on cold nights, the coldest being a "three-dog night."

lol do i get to spin the wheel?!? or not since i didn't answer in a for of a question, lol take it easy!

varanuslifer Jul 27, 2006 10:31 PM

Not trying to be a jerk, was just wondering if anyone knew that's all, most people don't really know. I mean it also preceds the flooding of the nile, if you ask me i think it was Sirius taking a leak in it though lol j/k!

crimsonking Jul 28, 2006 08:23 PM

....if you're interested in that sort of thing...
Mars will be closer to earth next month (AUG '06)than ever in recorded history I think. Maybe something like 35 million miles?
Should get brighter as the month wears down and brightest at aroungd the 27th. Rises in the east around 9-10 and best viewed after midnight-2a.m (I'm guessing) You or your children will never see it that close again.
Get a cheap telescope to see it like never before.
If you have a good camera, take some pics.

It's from the Atlanta Rhythm Section's 1975 album by that name. I saw it the other day in Crimsonking's microbus, in his 8-track tape player.

crimsonking Jul 28, 2006 07:31 PM

..are you the one who took out the matchbook that was holding the 8 track in just rightso it wouldn't double track???
Thanks.

Mark, How are the AK offspring doing? Any of them fed yet? You bringing those to Daytona as well? If I make it, I'd like to take a look at 'em in person.

Sean

crimsonking Jul 27, 2006 09:54 PM

Just now have shed Sean. I offered a pink to one (#9)and he ate it right away. Gotta get lots of pinks!
Some of them are already spoken for Sean, so I don't know what will be left by showtime. Some will probably be picked up there though so come by early.
