Pyxis breeding age and/or maturation

Nickolas Jul 27, 2006 10:01 PM

I was wondering how fast Pyxis sp reach breeding age/sexual maturity in captivity.

I've read conflicting information on this, and would like some clarification from people who have raised cb hatchlings to adulthood.

Thanks for any and all help that is provided.

I wouldn't expect to see any activity before 4 years. Perhaps even older than that...

A good source of information and photos is the Yahoo Pyxis group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pyxis/

I have some 3-4 year old captive bred pyxis and they are only about 3-4" and showing no male or female traits. I would assume from their size and features that it will probably be at least 3-4 more years before they will produce any eggs. From my other species (redfoots, hermann's) I know it takes about 8-10 years to reach sexual maturity.
