Baby very skittish.

PhunkeyPhish Aug 03, 2003 09:35 AM

My baby striped is very timid in his new surroundings. I have a cave which he used to hide under teh first day he came, but then i added a fake plant in teh corner which he somehow gets right in the middle of and just sits there througout the day, and in the mornings hes in it too, so i think he has spent his days in there since august 2. I put bloodworms in the plant, so i think hes eating them, but ive never seen him actually eat. I also put in reptomin baby pellets whcih i havent seen him eat either. How long before this lil guy will warm up to his new surroundings? Thanks
Ian

Be patient. If it is captive hatched (and even if not) it should be fine. They are a bit shy when first hatched but soon (a week or two) they will associate you with food.
I have also found that some of the frozens foods made for marine tropical fish are very favored but small mud/musks. I have been using clams, blood worms and shrimp for mine. They come in little cubes that can be popped out of the package and then thawed. Just try a SMALL amount in from of the turtle. Should eat this kind of thing fine but don't be surprised if it is shy around you at first.
