Hi Ian, these are Oregon Red Spotted gartersnakes (t.s.concinnus).
Most of the garters along the northern california cost, Oregon
and parts of Washington have red on their heads.
But as far as red heads go, California red-sided garters and some populations
of valley garters have red heads as well.
Some herpetologists think that california red sided garters and
oregon red spotted garters should be the same subspecies.
I think they might as well throw puget sound, san fransisco garters, and
valley garters into the same sub-species as well if they are going
to do that since they all are quite variable in appearance and
integrate all over the west.
Brian,
Your Oregon is sharp! Good luck with her and the babies.
