Here are picks of the last three from clutch one. I really like all six of these. I’m a sucker for orange Leonis, the first one here is one of my favorites. The florescent lights in the snake room messed with the colors a bit.

Yes, I know the pic is very blurry, I said it was a sneak peak. Actually, it was the only pic that showed the head pattern, reverse of “Shark Tooth”. All 14 out of 14 are out now (it helps to be home), I’ll get pics when they start shedding.

I like the brownish saddle color on the light background, different and something you don't often see. Would be interesting to see what this one looks like as an adult and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of this clutch.

This really is one great clutch Rick. I've been looking these 6 over the past couple of days, lots of interesting things going on. Every one is superb but my picks would be #1 and #5. I really think you should hold on to #'s 1 through 3 and work with that pinstriped look, it's awesome! But since you can't keep that many I'll take #1 and #5 off your hands.

How's your breeding program going this year? Did you breed that melanistic female? Did that "Big Yeller" redux breed this year? I'd love to see some pics of some of your thayeri if and when they hatch out.

No exciting news from central Illinois.

2007 has been in my plans for my first big year for thayeri. Major exterior renovation to the house was on the slate for this summer which I'm smack in the middle of, so I didn’t plan much and the incubators are idle this year. The melanistic female is takin’ it easy. I did try an older alterna female again, second year I've had her and nothing but duds again. No doubt I got taken for a ride on that girl, long story, but she just doesn't seem to have the juice and I think she's definitely done makin' babies. It's a shame, she's a real beauty and so is the adult male I kept. One clutch from those two would have made me happy. I sold my proven dark trio last fall so no alterna babies this year. I also tried a proven white leonis female thayeri that I added to the collection last fall, great snake and I know she's good to go but she doesn't want a thing to do with a male this year. I've tried several with her, actually tried again early this morning after a fresh shed but no-go again. It’s probably a good thing my only two efforts this year failed, all I really have time for right now is feeding and routine maintenance to keep the collection healthy. Mighty boring compared to having babies to raise I must say, but I still dig working with the snakes.

Good news is, all of my 2003's are looking great, several could have easily been bred this year including the "Big Yeller Jr." male. That boy is gonna be a brute like his daddy and a great snake all 'round, zero issues with that guy. I hope he proves to be a good producer. If I'd had the time he would have had a shot at my yellow leonis Lopez female, and her milksnake phase sis would have spent a little quality time with my Vermilya white leonis male. Those two Lopez females are exceptionally large and robust for 2003 animals, by far the biggest 2003 females here. I hope for good clutches from those two as four year olds.

Looking back at your first clutch… MAN those two intermediates are rock-solid! Congrats on those! You need to figure out the magic combination that produced those two so you can keep ‘em coming!

What’s the latest on your alterna?
