How to Ship Bearded Dragons?

Scatz Aug 03, 2003 09:56 AM

I shipped my first batch of bearded dragons out yesterday. I told the customer I would pay shipping, expecting only a $20-$25 fee. I was astonished when I got the bill-$50! I shipped next day delivery via Airbnorne Express. Does anyone know any cheaper ways to ship? Thanks-Adam

If you are going to ship overnight which is the best way and only way i would say to ship. that is cheap..fedex ands ups are more expensive. it all goes by weight of the package..i work for an express company so i know that for a fact..

WOW! I ship out Beardies every week and I have never paid over $40.00

Usually it runs around $35.00 (give or take a buck or two)and I use Fed ex. I never charge for packaging, boxes, deli cups, etc.

Did you box them up yourself? or paid extra for them to box them?

I don't know if this question was for me or the original person who posted, but I get 10:30 am delivery with priority overnight with Fed ex (rural areas it is by noon)and I have never paid over $40.00. I am in Florida and have shipped to CA, NY, OH, IL, GA, AZ, you name it! I have also sent as many as 4 sub adults in the same box.
I have an airborn account also, but am yet to use it for Beardies.... I have had two deliveries arrive here via Airborn and BOTH were DOA. For this reason, I am unsure about using them to ship out. Especially since I think the Airborn "problem" I am having is at this end somewhere.

sorry to hear about your doa through airborne express ..i work for them ..although we don't get to many through our station ..our sucess rate is high..unlike fedex you must ask for 10:30 delivery through them its a 5.00 charge guarentee. they use the weight of the package to determine the cost that i know. don't know about fedex but ups uses size.Working for them i know how packages get handled no matter who handles them ..so if i was a breeder i don't know whether i would have the guts to ship at all.

i work for UPS part-time and i know for a fact that overnght(air) packages get charged by the dimensions of the package. -weight means absoltely nothing. ship ups in as small a box as possible

i work for airborne fulltime..and they charge by weight..not size.

except a bearded dragon was shipped to me and now I have to pay $50 in shipping! The seller used Airborne, and both of us were expecting $30 for shipping and were shocked when it came out to $50! So now I'm paying more for shipping than for the actual dragon.

Don't worry I'll catch you...

Is this what you call tact?

I use airborne and I was charging $30 but when I got my first bill my jaw hit the floor. I'm in FL so anything to FL or GA it costs around $30. pretty much anywhere else it goes up from there. Most being around $46. for some reason.
So I now charge $35 and I pay what ever over. I would never quote someone a shipping charge, then charge them if it goes over. That to me sounds horrible. I took mine as a lesson learned and now charge a little more for shipping.

Later.

But then again,, I don't know what the terms were that may have been discussed.

Sorry if I stepped on anyone's toes.
