how big do star torts get when they are full grown???????
The three types of Star Tortoises are different sizes when adults, and there is also some variation in the sizes of Indian Stars depending upon where they originate within their range. In all three types, the females are a fair amount larger than the males. That being said, Burmese Star females can exceed 12" while the largest males are about 9.5". Sri Lankan Star females are almost the same size as the Burmese females, though a large male Sri Lankan is about 7.5". The Indian Stars have a larger form in which females may reach 9" and males about 6.5" and then there are smaller races in which the females are only about 7" and the males 5".
I have a photo of a 15" female Sri Lankan Star taken by one of my friends in Sri Lanka when he was there in the mid 1990's, and I measured a 14" female Burmese Star shell in the national museum in Burma in 1999. Those are huge animals, almost the size of a Radiated Tortoise.
