How Hard Is It To Care For The Panther Breeds

TattooTony Aug 03, 2003 10:00 AM

I've been researching Chameleons for a few months and it seems the panthers have the brightest colors,do other breeds have that bright a color?
I seem to like the red and blue colors the best.
But back to my question are they hard to take care of,what level of caring do they need, beginner, advanced, very advanced.
Also how hard are they to breed.
Thanks

they are about as hardy as a veiled. less aggressive though. the major difference is they need high humidity and somewhat lower temps than a veiled. they seem to be about the most colorful out of the chams, though there are some others that are pretty colorful as well, but not as available as CB.

they are more of a begginer cham, the only thing that most people struggle with is the humidity, around 90% or higher is usually good.

Thanks for your reply.
How do you achieve 90% humidity.
I just want to be sure i can do this before i start,i'm doing my homework lol.
Thanks again

the humidity can be achieved through the use of an automister, like a rainmaker. another thing that you can do is hang wet towels off the sides of the cage. you can also put a party cup with a hole in it and lay it on the towels so that it drips slowly on them, keeping them wet.

Thanks for the help.
I really like your cage plans and i am planning on building one like it soon, instead of the wire you used could i use a screen material like used for windows,i have alot of this,it's not the plastic screen it's the metal wire kind that should make it cricketproof.
I also sent you a email.
Thanks again

Tony-

You can use just about any screen you want that is aluminum/metal or shade cloth even. If you are going to use the aluminum window screen, it will be a little harder to staple, you will have to roll the ends to make them thicker to staple down so it secures the screen. You can also use window screen frame to make the cage instead of the wood for the screen you want to use, but it will cost allot more money. Hope this helps

dont use alluminum. it can damagte your chams little toenails, rip them right out. also, when he rubs his nose on the screen (which he probably will) it will create a painful sore, that could scar him permanently. my uncle used metal screen for his chams cage, and the same thing happened. just use pet screen, fiberglass, or mesh.
