For no reason other than to liven things up a bit...

How did your uro get its name?
Arthur and Joe are named after two of my favorite redheads: Arthur Weasley and RatCity Roller Girl JoJo Stiletto

Shazzbot is the (assumed to be) swear word used by Mork from Ork. Well-named little monster, too - she's quite the Shazzbot.

Lilly was named for Lilly Kane, since she's buggy eyed and kind of easy.

Male mimic?? That's simply a male... What say you, Torey?

Lilly was named for Lilly Kane, since she's buggy eyed and kind of easy.

This is what Torey said about Lilly so I took it as female.I did have to go and look again to make sure I didn't misread it.I could still be mistaken though.

Nope - Cajit's got it right. Lilly is a beautiful male-mimic female.

She looks perpetually concerned - like she just KNOWS I'm going to catch her and feed her to the cat at any moment.

Wow!! What a great example of a lizard in drag! Had us fooled for sure.

Here's how my second Mali got his name: I went into the (unnamed shop) to pick up supplies. Wandered back to take a look at the Uros and noticed one walking with a gimpy front paw. I asked what happened to him and was told "Hmmm...we got this shipment in today and I guess nobody noticed that one. Tell you what...I know you'll take care of him so you can have him free of charge." Well, after buying his enclosure, lights, substrate, etc., he wasn't really "free" but I did it. Took him to my OUTSTANDING reptile Vet and asked what she thought. A few tests and an exam told her that it wasn't anything serious and we treated him with warm soaks, herbal remedies and massage. Within a week he was walking normally. Now, if you've see the movie "The Usual Suspects" you'll know why I named him Keyser Soze. (If you haven't seen the movie, I recommend it!) Wish I had a good picture of him to post but....

"Fantus" (sorry...no pic right now...I'm at work)

Fantus was the name of a "fire drake" (sort of a mini dragon thing) in Raymond E. Feist's "Riftwar" books.

You're probably going to think this is some kind of spiritual revelation, or zen-like experience, but it's not. I had a dream about a uro and his name was Bruce. It stuck.

all of my lizards have stories about their names but i will stick the to uros. when i showed my mom a picture of what a uro looked like after i acquired helga she said she needed a harsh slavic sounding name and most of my lizards have two syllable names so helga it was. when i got hugo, he was to be helga's mate so i needed something that sounded good with helga so hugo stuck (if i ever get the space i would love to have a hilda to live with helga and hugo).

xocoyotzin, or xoco (that is show-co) got his or her name from a nahuatl word. i was taking nahuatl when i bought him or her and their words are genderless so it can be a boy or girl's name. it means my precious youngest one.

We have yet to find the perfect lizard name.......

When you leave it to a 12-year old to name "his" (yeah, right) lizard, he came up with Wizard.
It didn't stick.
We went through a long scary time with him not eating or being active or gaining weight or poo-ing in his enclosure, so we thought Mikey (you know, Life Cereal, Mikey hates everything).
That didn't stick, nor did one of the now 13-year old's friends suggestion of "Spikey Mikey".

"Mr. Lizard" (in a high squeaky voice) is what I usually call him when he's out basking and I like the way he looks up at me.

After lots of vet visits (one to a vet about 90 miles away), negative fecal exams, inconclusive bloodwork, normal x-rays, and no clue what could be up with him, PITA is what describes him best.
He is eating better, pooing in his enclosure (instead of only the bathtub), walking through said poo, much more active.

Still searching for that perfect name.

don't feel bad, earlier this year i drove to a vet that was about 2.5-3 hours away. alot of that was interstate driving. oh the things we do for pets

i am glad your boy seems to be doing better

Marvin the Masticator... I thought Marvin sounded fun but I also happened to be watching boxing the night I got him on ESPN. So I tacked on the last part because it sounded shnazzy. -ring announcer- "Marrrvin the Maaaasticator Uromastyx!" -end ring announcer-
