Eating??

deimos Jul 28, 2006 05:35 PM

My LG has been VERY active lately and VERY love-y but he has barely been eating. Should I be worried?

How old is it? Could it have reached adult eating patterns?
(I have found the difference in eating patterns striking once the gecko feels it has grown enough, I don't think I will ever not worry when that happens!)

Has anything else changed/ weather/ housing/ ect. ?

More information please, so we can help!

I have had him for almost 2 years now so he is full grown. Nothing has changed besides his eating pattern so maybe it is just that. I haven't chaged his home or lighting or anything. He's just acting very love-y and wants more attention then usual. How long is too long without eating?

Thank you so much for responding!!

Hmm... Well, two years would be a long time to suddenly reach full adult, usually the maximum time to reach adult is something closer to 18 months and you should have seen a feed change then. Since you have had it so long, I would guess you have seen them eat less around their shed times so this shouldn't be that... Quite honestly, with the information you have given there should be no reason that the gecko is not eating. If you had said she was a female, we could look for eggs, but a male, I'm sorry, I'm stumped. If he has missed more than 2 regular feedings or say about a week without eating anything I would strongly recommend finding a herp vet nearby just to rule out any sort of bug, some parasites can live undetected for long periods of time in otherwise healthy and well cared for animals. I wouldn't want to take any chances and you'd want to take action while they still have fat in the tail. Good luck.
