Doesnt stick to the glass anymore

i_heart_geckos Jul 28, 2006 09:19 PM

I bought a baby (2 weeks old-ish) crested gecko last month. And I didn't want this one to turn out like my gecko that I bought as an adult, that from the start, would tear a chunk out of your hand. So, I started handling him every day. But now he cant stick to the glass anymore, and I was wondering if maybe it was because I handle him? Im not sure why, but he just stopped sticking. And it makes me sad that he cant climb anymore, is there any way to fix this?

I'm not sure about cresteds but it sounds like maybe he is going to shed? Sometimes they get slippery prior to shedding. Also, sometimes when you handle them alot they get the oils from our skin on their toes and it takes a bit for them to stick again. I've noticed slippery geckos after holding occasionally.

Does he appear healthy? Is he eating?

It also might be an improper shed. Are you keeping him humid enough? (for one so young, I would suggest a humid hide that is extra humid). The younger cresties require a higher humidity than the adults do. A humid hide would allow him to regulate his own humidity & keep risk of infection & fungus down.

Yea, I do handle him, and he is eating. I'll try keeping his humidity higher and see if that works, thank you!

Yes, yes he does! I went to get him out the other day and he was running across his tank and then all of the sudden was climbing up the glass, I was so happy!
