Michigan doesn't get near as cold in winter as Alaska

Certainly it freezes over for the winter, but not to a depth of several feet as it does there. Reptiles here hibernate out of necessity, but more survive it than not. Surely enough to repopulate come spring time
. I had a trio of them a couple years ago that didn't even winter over inside the house and did well till I left for a week and no one fed the poor things. The wife won't go near reptiles of any kind and my boys were apparently to young to trust with the job.
It IS to bad they loose their color as they age, Although I've seen what looked to be adults in the wild that kept their blue tails. I sometimes wonder if it has to do with the UV rays from the sun.
