Can a snake color be bleached???

Noir Jul 29, 2006 12:52 AM

About 3 weeks ago my snake pooped in the night and somehow had it smeared ALL of his body. From head to tail. Almost as if it had wallowed in it. Well I dumped in warm water, and washed him as best as possible, then I rubbed him down with about a million paper towels. I don't know if it all came off though. Whe he shed the follow 2 weeks, his color was ALL gone. He looked ash greyish pink, and the red tail was dull like it had been bleached. will his color come back, is there anything I can do to help the color return. I read frequent feedings??? has this ever happened to anyone? Thanks for the help! By the way he's doing just fine health wise.

I have seen that happen before and yes the color does come back after a few sheds. Just in case, I would hang on to it though for a while. I have seen ball pythons do that but not regain the color! Keep us posted!

A spot of color about the size of a nickel came ouff my salmon about 9 months ago and has kinda come back, but yo can still see where there is color missing.

I received a male Guyana BCC from a guy who was feeding from a certain rodent supply company and the exact same thing happened about 10 days after I received him (and I hadn't fed yet). Except, over 2 years after it happened, the color never returned. Mine may have been more severe as some of the scales came completely off of the snakes body. The texture was nowhere NEAR the same after that shed and the texture never came completely back, but it did get MUCH better after numerous sheds. I ended up adopting that animal out because I didn't feel right selling it.

This is a bad picture of him and I had just misted the cage. But you can see the color never returned to normal even after a couple of years. Unfortunately the tail isn't in plain view but it's exactly as you described it.

Thanks for all of the posts everyone. i'm a little worried that his color won't return as most of you guys say, but I will hold on to him for a while. I will post again after about 4 or 5 sheds!
