Lining a concrete pond....

ravenspirit Jul 29, 2006 02:35 AM

Does anyone know what would be the best way to line a 300 to 700 gallon concrete pond for mid sized crocodilians ?

Ive been told pool paint may be something worth looking into...

Besides pre-formed ponds, what has been done with concrete for croc pens...I remeber seeing a nice concrete looking one in Christopher Dieters book....Does anyone have info on that, or its construction ?

Thanks in advance.

The sell 2 part epoxy paint for concrete. Pretty pricy but a 3to 700 gallon pond is never cheap.

when you say concrete pond im guessing your going to dig a huge hole, line it with concrete? how are you going to drain it? i kno theres pumps for draining pools but youd have to rent one like every month and thatd be a pain, kno wut im saying.

do you even need to line the concrete? does it polute the water or sumthing, if not id leave it like that, throw some gravle and clay for a pond floor,

now im interested in the same question your asking so help me get the answers to some of these quesions.

Pumping the water out is no big deal. You can also build a drain in the bottom is one so chooses.

Lining the concrete is beneficial to the crocodilians health. Unlined concrete can create problems for the crocodilians feet and skin. Sometimes that can lead to deforming injuries or fatalities. An epoxy coating done correctly helps reduce these problems by providing a smooth surface.

I agree that an epoxy cover to the concrete would be very effective. Pool paint works ok but 2 part epoxy is definitely the way to go. Just don't breathe in to many of the fumes

Bill Moss knows the fella who designed the ponds in my book, perhaps he will see this thread and respond. I'll put it in my header.
