mantella calls

azureus06 Aug 03, 2003 10:49 AM

Hi. I have a suspected male golden (Aurientica), but I never heard mine call yet, and its been 3 months. I heard they sound like crickets, but I need other opinions. Last night I heard a call coming from one my 4 tanks that I have on a shelf. The first tank houses my Stenodactylus (which I doubt made the call....they sound more like birds), the other tank houses my juvi D. Azureus (which I doubt made the call), then my hatchling Rhacodactylus Ciliatus (which I doubt made the call), then finally my mantella tank (possibility). The noise was as loud as a cricket, but sounded nothing like it....though the call was a responce to a cricket in my basement. Anyway... It sounded like two "pool table balls", or "ping-pong balls" crashing into each other twice quickly...in sets of 4-8 every minute for 2 minutes...(then another time 3 hours later). It sounded like this: {.....TICKTICK..........TICKTICK......TICK.........TICKTICK.......TICK......} lol. Do you think it couldve been my mantella calling? A bug? etc. Thanks for your time...PS- If you have an mp3 or wav. format would be helpful aswell. Thanks

That would be your Golden Mantella. Mine sound like ping pong balls banging together.
